Name: Yvonne Washington and Houston's Voice

Houston was chosen by Comcast to be one of the six pilot cities to launch a locally branded website dedicated to showcasing the talent and vibrancy of its citizens.

With so many deserved people to highlight on this unique website, the choice was difficult. But anyone who’s had the pleasure of listening to Yvonne Washington sing will understand why she was chosen.

From her singing debut at the age of five at the rodeo to her performances in China, Europe and The Netherlands, “Miss Yvonne” has a voice richly influenced by gospel, jazz, R&B, Motown, Pop and New Orleans jazz.

She recorded “Autumn in New York,” the title tune from the movie of the same name starring Richard Gere and Winona Ryder. Sure, there are plenty of great voices out there, but Yvonne’s voice comes jam packed with personality and soul to keep you wanting to hear more.

She wasn’t born in Houston, but we’re glad she got here as soon as she could.
